Strategic Marketing: Adelaide Thunderbirds/
Netball SA
Brand Nexus provides strategic brand and marketing management. Recently Netball SA and the Adelaide Thunderbirds needed strategic marketing leadership to cover a maternity leave position. For 2 days a week over 2023, Brand Nexus consulted with Netball SA’s CEO, Senior Leadership team and their Board to lead their marketing and events team and deliver a three year strategic marketing plan. A consulting arrangement like this gives an organisation flexibility to switch on capability as required and enough contact time to ensure the marketing team are delivering to objectives. The Adelaide Thunderbirds won the Suncorp Super Netball Premiership that year after a ten year absence from the podium. While we can’t say our marketing and events strategies contributed to this, it was certainly a welcome bonus being a part of the experience.

Podcasts
Using the Power of Audio to Tell Your Brand’s Story
A podcast is a medium of intimacy as it is generally one person listening to one other or listening to a few people having a conversation. This gives your brand the opportunity to build trust as the listener is listening to a real voice complete with tone and inflexion. With trust comes a relationship and from a relationship comes perception change and commercial transaction.
Brand Nexus produces a number of commercial podcasts for clients including the Australia China Business Council Green Channel Podcast and Day For It: The Surf Boat Podcast as well as its own long-running podcasts: The Pub Test Podcast with Mark Bickley and Dan Demaria and The Work with Sputnik and Dan Demaria about the advertising industry (a language warning with this one).

Manser Wines.
The Challenge
Manser Wines was a new winemaker with little brand presence in a crowded market-place - we need to help the brand stand out.
The Solution
The 4 acres of “Block 4” at Manser Wines’ Southern Adelaide Hills estate mimics the “terroir” of the Côte-Rôtie in the Northern Rhône wine region of France – considered the home of Shiraz. With a sloping North-facing terrain and random multi-clonal Shiraz plantings, premium “Block 4” Shiraz is produced almost identically to the traditional Shiraz of the Côte-Rôtie. As Manser Wines uses an authentic French method to create Shiraz, we found a way to link Manser Wines to the French.
Brand Nexus helped Manser Wines latch onto the simmering dispute between the French and Australian Governments over the recent cancellation of the $90 million French submarine contract. Launched in November 2021, Brand Nexus published a series of newspaper ads for Manser Wines in The Advertiser (Adelaide) lamenting the breakdown of the relationship between the traditional allies but thanking France for the traditional wine-making methods the winemaker has implemented. Not content with promoting this offer of reconciliation in Australia, Brand Nexus ran French-language press for Manser Wines in France in the l'Eveil Quotidien newspaper which services the Northern Rhône wine region. As Manser Wines’ target audience is a high income, older and discerning consumer, press advertising was selected as the medium of choice. Click on the image below to view the work.
The Results
Manser Wines brand awareness tripled within 2 weeks of the advertising campaign going to print with a number of sales orders going directly to the winemaker’s website via an embedded QR code.
Glenelg Surf Life Saving Club.
To commemorate the 90th Anniversary of the Glenelg Surf Lifesaving Club, Brand Nexus worked with visual content specialists Vizualizm to create a short documentary showcasing the history of the club. Also produced was a short film to show a day in the life of the club - you can view that film here.
The Bar & Bistro
The Challenge
The Bar & Bistro are a major revenue source for the Glenelg Surf Lifesaving Club but there was a perception by the general public that this area was only for club members.
The Solution
Using a hyper-targeted outdoor campaign in the streets surrounding the club, we ran the below three executions over a 6 week period through Ooh!media.
The Results
This short campaign increased the bar and bistro’s revenues by 15% year-on-year. The club is now generally full with both club members and members of the general public.

The Australian Surf Rowers League (ASRL)
Surf boat rowing is clean and green high energy sport with a 50/50 gender participation that helps keep our volunteer lifesavers mentally and physically fit and agile.
Brand Nexus is working with the ASRL to develop its marketing and sponsorship.

The Adelaide Motorsport Festival is the equivalent of the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the Southern Hemisphere and takes place each March on part of the former Adelaide Formula 1 Grand Prix track. Brand Nexus has been working with the Adelaide Motorsport Festival for the past two years to match brands who want to interact with their audience including Toyota, Tesla, Penrite Oil, Motor Traders Association and RAA.
